Online NLT Study Bible Now Available
After a pretty intense couple of months of development, the Online NLT Study Bible is now available. You can sign up for 30 days for free, after which you'll need an access code. Every printed NLT Study Bible comes with an access code that gives you permanent full access to the Online edition.

Please come take a look around and tell me what you think, what we've done well, and what we can improve. What features would you most like to see in the Online NLT Study Bible?

Sean,

Congrats to you and your team. The site is great.

What I like

1. Tabbed view is good and the different paths (i.e chronology, articles, index etc.) for getting into study are great.
2. Clean, easy to read interface
3. Having all the resources and having them linked.
4. Reading Plan which links to the section with its notes.
5. Having the bible text and notes in separate frames so that the bible text can be read without distraction.
6. The link to other versions in Bible Gateway.

What I would like to see or see improved

1. The alignment of the bible text and the notes. It would be good to be able to scroll the bible text and have the notes for the top most verse at the top of the notes frame (see www.nextbible.org for an example of this)
2. Browser support. Safari browser doesn't seem to render properly, works well with Firefox 3.
3. It would be great to be able to record my progress through the reading plan and journal notes against each of the reading plan entries (Noting: you mentioned personal notes will be in a later release, it would be great if the notes could be passage by passage like in the reading plan and not just verse by verse)
4. It would be great if the personal notes could include hyperlinks to bible passages.
5. It would be great if each of the maps had KML files linked to them so that they could be opened in Google Earth to get a better feel for what the places look like.
6. It would be great if the initial trial were a bit longer since those of us living outside the US will have to wait a while to get the print edition.

Again, well done to you and your team.

I just started my tour of NLTSB Online, so for now I have only one comment:

I see a lot of {tn} and {/tn} tags in notes, no matter what browser I use.

Can this be corrected, please?

Yes, our web team is working on fixing that formatting issue and others like it.

I agree with what Phil said. One suggestion I have is to also make the maps searchable according to geography and chronology. The vast amount of maps make it hard to narrow down what I want to find; but this is a minor point. The site looks really good.

Thanks, Phil and Kevin, for the good input. Improving the map browser is something we definitely want to do.

In my browser (Firefox) the Harmony of the Gospels does not display correctly. Is this a known issue, or a problem on my end?

OK, I see now that the page can't be moved to the right until you reveal the control at the bottom of the subwindow. Note however that # 197 still runs off the right side a bit.

Hi, Dan. Yes, those are known issues.

I assume that on-line access only applies to those who buy a printed edition, and not an electronic version (I've just bought a copy for use with PocketBible).

Am I right?

If so, I find that disappointing. It would've been good to know I could use any internet computer when I didn't have mine with me, just as users with printed copies can.

Hi, John. Yes, the online edition is a companion to the printed edition. The other digital editions (such as PocketBible) are separate products.

I love the chronological charts but with the last ones 30-39 the links appear to be wrong and the viewer is misdirected.
