Smyth-Sewn Genuine Leather

I am pleased to report that this fall the NLT Study Bible will be available in Smyth sewn, genuine leather bindings (black and burgundy). I have always preferred sewn bindings and genuine leather covers for their durability and beauty. Most Bibles by most publishers are glued, and the glues have gotten quite good. But a sewn binding is still more durable than a glued binding, and Smyth sewing is the highest quality sewing process -- it uses durable binders' thread and creates a lie-flat binding that can last for a long, long time. For instance, the Smyth sewn, genuine leather NASB ultrathin reference Bible that I bought in 1987 and used daily for over 10 years is still in very good condition. I would expect that the Smyth sewn NLT Study Bible should be a very durable, high-quality product as well.

In addition to the genuine leather editions of the NLT Study Bible, there are two new "LeatherLike" bindings, chocolate/chocolate, and chocolate/dusty blue. My personal copy of the NLT Study Bible is the chocolate/tan binding that was so popular last year, and it has served me well. The LeatherLike covers that Tyndale uses are very nice, with a good tactile feeling (and perhaps even a hint of real leather scent? I might be imagining it...).

While we're talking about bindings, what bindings of the NLT Study Bible are you most interested in seeing? Please let me know in the comments!

I'd still like to see a single column reference NLT, Smyth-Sewn, available in both Calfskin and Goatskin.

This is great news. What kind of leather will be used on the new edition? Any more details/reviews?

I know this is about the NLT Study Bible, and I'm glad to hear this news of a Smyth-Sewn edition. But I have to add an enthusiastic amen to Former Donut Junkie's comment. I'd add a request to make such a single column reference black letter only. (And I actually prefer the LeatherLike covers to lower quality leather, but calfskin or goatskin would be very nice.)

I could take or leave single-columns, but a black-letter edition would be very nice.

The NLT STUDY BIBLE IS AN OUTSTANDING RESOURCE FOR EVERYONE; HOWEVER, IT HAS INESTIMABLE VALUE FOR BIBLE TEACHERS AND THOSE WHOSE MINISTRY IS WRITING. I ANXIOUSLY AWAIT THE ARRIVAL OF THE SMYTH SEWN GENUINE LEATHER EDITIONS. THEY WILL LAST PAST MY LIFETIME AND MY SON CAN USE IT MANY YEARS HENCE. I, TOO, WOULD LIKE TO SEE A GENUINE CALFSKIN MADE AVAILABLE SOON. GOD BLESS. DON JOHNSON, TN

Please, please consider publishing a large-print edition of this study bible. This is such a wonderful translation and set of study notes, and there is so much to be gained from reading this bible - it is frustrating that even with reading glasses the print is just a little too small (especially the notes). Hardcover and/or leather-like would be great. I'll bet you would sell many copies - there are a lot of us over-50's out here who find ourselves choosing bibles based on size of font! Thanks.

Hey guys...are you guys considering making the NLT Study Bible available as an e-Sword module? That would be quite sweet. :)
Dave.

@Don Johnson: The folks over at http://LeatherBibles.com can probably help you get a calfskin leather cover put onto your Smyth-sewn NLT Study Bible. They're good and reputable folks.* Get in touch with them, tell them about the new NLTSB edition, and see what they can do for you. And let us know how it goes.

*(FD: My brother-in-law started LeatherBibles.com, and I'm friends with the current owners as well.)

I'm with you on having a black-letter edition, but that's a business decision that the publisher will have to make. We know that there is some demand for it, but we don't know if there is _enough_ demand. We'll keep you apprised of developments.

@Dave Mackey: Good idea about the e-Sword module. I use e-Sword myself pretty regularly and have invested in a number of Bible translations for it. It's a great tool.

I like the paperback format of the Life Application Study Bible. Would it be possible that The NLT Study Bible could fit in a personal size paperback format? I have purchased it in hardback and something seems to have happened to it so I upgraded to a leather-like edition but would like to see a paperback edition as well.

Thanks for this great Bible. I would like a Smyth-sewn hard cover edition. When I am teaching, I find such Bibles are less inclined to flop around or do other unexpected things.

I am all about a large-print Bible. I'm wondering though how well the NLT Study Bible would turn out as large print given that it is already the same size as the NIV Large Print Study Bible!!

Boy, I would sure like to see this in a large print bible. Being over 50, it sure makes it lots easier to read. I would buy a large print edition is a heart beat. Thanks.
